04/07/00 - A Thought

You can't possibly fathom what it is like to have freedom until it's suddenly ripped away from you. Before you have it, you can fantasize on what it would be like to have freedom, but fantasies do not compare to the reality of losing a freedom you believe you deserve.

03/15/00 - Simple Thought

I just went outside to go for a walk, clear my mind, and try to think on what I should do with my life, now that I'm almost out of university. It's been a while since I've been on one of these contemplative "Meaning of Life" walks, and I thought it was about time I go on one. Having just watched Dead Poets Society again, it urged me to leave the confines of my apartment. What I didn't expect when I got out was that it would be raining, but I pressed onward, intent on thinking.

I hadn't walked but two minutes when I saw a woman in the road, crouched over a black cat lying on the asphalt. The cat had been hit by a car and the driver had just driven off. This woman, driving, had seen the cat and stopped. It was still alive, but bleeding and injured. The humane society was called and we waited for them in the rain, beckoning all the cars to avoid the cat. After about fifteen minutes, they came, and we went back our separate ways. I didn't get much walking done, but I wholeheartedly believe I got a lot out of my walk tonight.

People miss out on living when they just work all day to come home and sit in front of their TV or computer.

03/01/00 - Deep Thought

In university, the students with the highest grades are those who can repeat the professor's thoughts verbatim, yet the ones that will have the most effect on our future are those who dare challenge the professor's way of thinking.  It is a tragedy that those who have the greatest chance of changing the world we live in are those who are so often molded by our educational system to abstain from all forms of creativity.
